Prior to my studies, most of my professional experience was developed in retail management in the fast casual restaurant sector. After having thrived for several years in my role as a Store Manager of a Starbucks café in Los Angeles California, I made the leap to open the next chapter of my life. I was ready to start a family and nurture new talents and interests and I found Montreal to be the perfect fit for both of those goals.
My roadmap for this big move was broken down into phases. The first step for me was to spend time getting acclimated to my new home, and learning French. I spent my first the beginning of my time in Quebec in a full immersion French program. After 9 months in a classroom setting, I was ready to take the next step and take my French Stage- an actual job in an exclusively francophone environment. Since the arts and entertainment has always been a hobby of mine and with my time spent volunteering for small scale event production projects in the past, I chose to take a job working for the Festival de Jazz de Montreal. It was a wonderful transition job where I could practice and grow my skills in French while working in a field that stimulated my creative side.
Before having moved to Montreal, I had reflected for a time about which direction I wanted to grow my career in once I set up roots. After consideration, I often found myself back on blogs or looking at programs related to software development. I've always been fascinated with tech and the thought of actually learning how all of it actually worked has consistently intrgued me. With the entertainment sector being shut down after March of 2020, I was given the unique opportunity to accelerate my timeframe. From here I began the process of enrollment in the Full Stack Development AEC program at John Abbott College.
Fast forward 13 months and having successfully aquired my AEC in Full Stack developement, I find myself in a familiar place not too different from the end of my French studies. Coming out of the class room setting with a solid foundation and ready to ignite my career, I'm fully aware that the real lessons begin now. On that note, I can't wait to begin this next adventure and continue the growth from a classroom to a thriving career.
